Jonathan Serrano is an attorney with Margulies Faith LLP. He has broad experience in all aspects of bankruptcy and reorganization, having represented debtors, creditors, trustees, litigants, and buyers of distressed assets. Mr. Serrano previously worked for a large international law firm where he gained quality training and experience in complex business bankruptcy law.
Mr. Serrano graduated from UCLA School of Law in 2019. During law school, he externed for the Honorable Kim McLane Wardlaw in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and he served as an editor for the UCLA Journal of Environmental Law & Policy. After law school, Mr. Serrano clerked for the Honorable Scott H. Yun and the Honorable Wayne Johnson in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California.
REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
As Debtor’s Counsel:
- Represented debtor in subchapter v bankruptcy case.
- Confirmed plan of reorganization for three jointly administered subchapter v debtors.
- Represented multinational financial company in preparing chapter 11 filing.
As Creditor’s Counsel:
- Represented creditor in documenting and negotiating purchase of its claim against bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange.
- Represented tenant in large shopping center’s chapter 11 bankruptcy.
- Represented pharmaceutical company in adversary proceeding against chapter 11 debtor.
As Trustee’s Counsel:
- Obtained temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction, followed by recovery and sale of estate assets, in representation of Chapter 11 Trustee.
- Represented Chapter 7 Trustee in $13 million sale of commercial real property.
- Represented Chapter 7 Trustee in recovering and selling fraudulently transferred real property.
Other Representations:
- Obtained dismissal of litigation against mortgage lender.
- Represented purchaser of distressed assets in settlement of adversary proceeding after obtaining dismissal of the Chapter 11 Trustee’s complaint with leave to amend.
- Represented foreign entity in its $20 million purchase of intellectual property and other business assets in a chapter 11 bankruptcy case.
